Ninth Doctor and Rose by AdamWithers Ninth Doctor and Rose by AdamWithers
Commission from Baltimore Comic Con 2012; Pencil.

This was my first Doctor - Christopher Eccleston. This was the Doctor that made me love Doctor Who. So many pieces of pure gold in that first series, so many great moments. And the slow, subtle hints of romance that only truly blossomed when he died and resurrected as Tennant.

Tennant may be my favorite Doctor, but Eccleston will always be my first, and perhaps shall also remain the most complex.

Pity it wasn't longer. I feel like going to Eccleston, grab him by the ear and bring him back to the set of Dr Who

Man, you make me wish so much that I was born in your era. You had the best series, the best actors, and the best moments of pop culture. I want to get into Doctor Who but I honestly believe that I can't say that I've seen it until I watch the first series you grew up with.

Excellent work as always. The Doctor looks different from the one I'm used to seeing and hearing people talk about but that's just me being too young to know the first, and probably the best, doctor. Rose for some reason reminds of Hermoine in this picture which I really like. The background is nice too with the time machine. Once again, excellent work as always. You really know whats what when it comes to fan art.

We had some goodies, but there's good happening in all eras - you just have to know where to look. I think 90% of most stuff is garbage, but as time passes we forget the bad and only hold onto the 10% that was really good. So in hindsight it can SEEM like there was more great stuff in the past, but it's only because we've forgotten or ignored the other 90%.

It's like music-- people like to say that the 60's had amazing music and the 80's was all crap, but if you really look at what was going on in those eras, there was as much good and bad in both decades. We just have selective memories! :XD:

True I guess. I don't know, I learn about all this stuff like Dr. Who, Dark Shadows, and other things that transferred from your era to mine and all I can think is that "damn, I missed out". As a 90s child, I got to see what was probably the last great era of cartoons with Batman: The Animated Series and other DC cartoons, SWAT Kats, The Tiny Toons, Animaniacs, The Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers, the various Sonic the Hedgehog cartoons, Disney's better years with their Toon Disney program, and so many other things that would take forever to list. That 90% probably goes pretty unnoticed though since we are so caught up in what we love from our era.

Lol good comparison! That's the one thing that to this day I'm still ashamed of from the 90s. We set up the model for these obnoxious preteen/tween/teen pop stars today because of the boy bands and crap like that from the 90s!

Hey, I'm not THAT old! I was born in the 80's--by the time I was old enough to pay attention, Doctor Who was up to Dr. #7! And Dark Shadows? I vaguely remember the 90's relaunch, but I was a kid when that happened. I also grew up on Batman: TAS and Tiny Toons and Animaniacs. I might have been a liiiittle older, but not by much!

It isn't ink, just really clean pencil. But thanks-- the original commission specifically asked for "9th Doctor, Rose, AND the TARDIS" so I had to come up with something! :D

he's one of my favorites too. He WAS one of the more complex Doctors, subtle hints of possible stress/trauma from the Time-War.

There were a lot of layers to every episode he was in; a lot going on in his head all the time. Well-- more than the average Doctor, anyway.

Ah, so you only came in with the new generation, eh? I've been watching Who since I was a kid; probably since 1980, or so, and I watched all the reruns right back to the first episode. You should try watching a few DVDs from the old series. They can be cheesy at times and the monsters/aliens even more so, but you'll get to see some wildly different sides of the Doctor.

And an excellent choice for favorite. Had he more seasons, I might not have glommed onto Tennant so quickly.

...Ah, who am I kidding? I'm just built to love the Tennant style Doctor more. Can't help myself. He was pretty much me but with an encyclopedic knowledge of all time and space. :XD:

I do believe Mr. Eccleston is the 9th Dr.

And way to make me feel OLD. My first Dr. was the 3rd. And it is always an internal mental battle for me to decide who I love more. 4 or 10.

Fixed. Duh. Can't believe I messed that up.

And I was really late to the Dr. Who train. I didn't start watching the first season w/#9 until Tennant was nearly done. Lots of times I could have gotten into it long before Tennant's run, I just... didn't.

And whichever is your favorite, 4 & 10 are indisputably the most iconic Doctors, and will remain so for quite some time.

I do have to say that 11 is quite entertaining as well. I would have to put him in a 2nd rank list though.... like 5 & 7. I barely count 8 as a real Dr. though ... I mean really, just a movie and that's it?

Which is kind of a shame because he's stated several times he would've liked to have done more. He wasn't a bad Doctor at all, he just didn't quite connect with that movie.

They were trying to figure out how to do the Doctor again. They didn't have a grip on it yet, though. With time, maybe. But it was probably ultimately for the best that the fields lay fallow for a while, so to speak. It gave the ultimate clean slate for #9 to come in.
