A color Emma Frost commission from our At-Home Con 2011; pencil, PsCS4. Another in my kinda-sorta "X-Series." Tried to encapsulate everything I think Emma is in this pic, and I think I pretty much got it.
So, confession time: I don't really like Emma Frost. But I think that's the whole point - you shouldn't "like" her. Her character is meant to be cold, selfish, conniving, greedy, cruel, haughty, arrogant, and bitchy. That's who she is. It's just that she happens to be working on the "good" side, so we kind of overlook that stuff. And that's okay. There are a lot of bad people doing good things for all of us, and she's one of them.
The problem I have is people forgetting who she is and what she's done. Kitty Pryde was my hero in Astonishing X-Men because she was the only one who held that icy bitch's feet to the fire for her past - a past which Emma doesn't even regret, and if it hadn't been for the deaths of her Hellions, she'd STILL be living that way. It's her natural state.
I also seriously hate the Scott/Emma relationship. After a man has had a Jean Grey, a woman who is your best friend, your partner, and your wife, a woman who lifts you up and makes you better than you were, and for whom you can do the same - after you've had that, you could NEVER love a woman like Emma Frost. Oh, you could f#@% a woman like Emma, just to feel something different after Jean's loss, but after a short while you'd just start missing what it's like to be with a GOOD PERSON you could RESPECT and have FUN with.
Emma is too selfish to love. She's too cold to have real "fun" with. She's too snide and condescending to be your best friend. She's her own best friend, and that's all. Scott would've hit that and quit that, and honestly she would've wanted out by now too. Maybe somewhere deep down she recognizes a good man like him could bring out a better person in herself, but the 99% of Emma that prefers being a snide bitch would win out and dump him.
So that's my Emma rant. I like her BECAUSE I don't like her, and I don't like it when apologists mess her up so that people can see she's "really not so bad." And I hate that Scott is still with her and hasn't left to find somebody better for him yet.

I liked that twist in the relationship between Scott and Jean, but only for so long as it was meant to let Scott be seduced by a totally spoiled woman or to "experiment" a little. I understood him taking heart with her over Jean´s death, but not for more then this. Imagining them having a family life and maaaaaaaaaaaany children like they do in some storylines, I cannot. It´s really unrealistic, as you say. But on the other hand, hasn´t Scott turned out his dark sides for a while now, too? I missed too much of the plots from the last ten years, so I don´t know how or why, but I saw him choosing a bad path...
