Well, here it is - my homage to one of my all-time favorite cartoons; Avatar: The Last Airbender. This was a long-time labor of love, concepted at the very beginning of the year, drawn out in the spring, colored the backgrounds in late-April, but only now have I gotten back to finish the foregrounds and finally finish it.
Composition was important to me, here, and each segment flows into at least one other. Zuko flows into each of his personalities, as well as being torn between Azula and his Father, and his Uncle, and also being connected to Katara. Aang is between his two teachers, Toph for Earthbending and Katara for Water, while being watched carefully by a pensive Iroh, pondering the future as the eldest character looks ahead along the same eyeline as the youngest.
Also, note the presence of the Moon behind Sokka, lighting his path. Subtle nod to the first season finale, but it made me smile.
This was a whole heck of a lot of fun, and I'd love to do more, but the time it takes to put together something of this depth is a bit prohibitive. Who knows, though? Once the third season starts, I'll likely be swept up in fan-craziness yet again, and then the sky's the limit!
Who's Who (clockwise from top): Sokka, Katara, Aang, Toph, Appa, Momo, King Bumi, Guru Pathik, Longshot, Smellerbee, Jet, Suki and the Kyoshi Warriors, Uncle Iroh, the three faces of Zuko, Azula and her girls Ty Lee and Mai, and Fire Lord Ozai.
Man this is really beautiful. I love how you did this entire thing. I mean the black and whites were good, but the colors on this really just make it into a masterpiece.
Been working on my own personal style, a conglomeration if you will, composed of the different techniques I have studied over the years. Needless to say I am a big fan of the Avatar show, and you really did it justice with this one here. Bravo!
Very good color choices in my opinion, they have great contrast and composition.
The effects you made are also awesome, the snow, the water whip and the airball are all great and i really like the movement on Katara and Sokka
Awesome pic.
